  1. Modem Doctor 5.2 Update Information

  3. Version 5.2 is a maintenance release of version 5.0.
  4.  
  5. When Modem Doctor 5 loads or works in the Auto-Login mode, it generates
  6. an internal interrupt to verify your comm port IRQ settings are correct.
  7. Although this is fine for most system configurations, this feature might
  8. not be desired at all times, especially when running with network or
  9. speciality hardware. On some machines, this IRQ test causes a freeze-up
  10. of the system. Version 5.2 adds a command line switch, /Q that will
  11. bypass these tests. To use this feature, type MDR /Q from the command
  12. line. There are no other changes in version 5.2. To run the IRQ test,
  13. just type MDR (as normal).

  15. Version 5.1 previously addressed a problem with the Borland C++ compiler.
  16. It appears that some of the Borland C++ compiler optimization routines were
  17. causing stack problems (system locking up, freezes) on computers running
  18. either DR-DOS or QEMM Memory Managers under certain conditions. This release
  19. removes those problems.

  21. If you currently are using 5.0, you need not worry about this release. There
  22. is no difference in features between 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2 in functionality.

  25. system bug in 5.1 and to Howard Feldsott for help in testing the IRQ
  26. /Q switch interface.
